In the middle of the largest ocean on earth, on the most isolated population center in the world, Yiddishkeit is thriving! In Honolulu you will find a dynamic Jewish community, Hebrew school, summer camp, daily minyanim, warm Shabbat gatherings, stimulating adult education, and plenty of aloha. Almost 40 years ago, in 1987, the Lubavitcher Rebbe gave his blessing to open a branch of Chabad in Hawai'i to spread the light of Judaism to one of the farthest corners of the earth. So in 1987, Rabbi Itchel and Perel Krasnjansky set out to turn Hawai'i into a blossoming center for Jewish life. Fortified with a blessing from the Rebbe and their irrepressible youthful idealism, the Krasnjanskys began by meeting Jews in every corner of O'ahu and inviting them to their home for davening and Shabbat meals. Soon there were holiday programs and classes that attracted scores of kama'aina and visitors. Today, over thirty nine years later, Chabad of Hawai'i is home to a vibrant Jewish community. Chabad has become the focus of Jewish life in Hawai'i for the local community and for thousands of out-of-town visitors, touching the lives of so many. For decades, Chabad of Hawaii has served as a lifeline for hundreds of local residents and visitors in times of need. From housing assistance for those facing unemployment or financial hardship, to emotional support during personal crises, Chabad has provided compassionate care and practical help. Through life's joys, challenges, and significant milestones, Chabad remains committed to offering personalized support to individuals and families at every stage of life. |
