at Chabad of Hawaii
Shavuot: June 8 -10 / 5 -7 Sivan Schedule Below
Message from the Rabbi

Shavuot (125x125)

3,331 years ago, the children of Israel stood at the foot of the Mount Sinai. Amid thunder and lightning, with the mountain trembling and reverberating, an awesome event that forever changed the course of human history took place: The Jewish people received the Torah from G‑d.

A unique relationship was formed - and the vast task of turning the world into a home for G‑d was entrusted to our nation. Thus, we became uniquely empowered to bring heaven down to earth.

Each year, on the holiday of Shavuot, this  powerful energy is re-lived and present once again -  as the Ten Commandments are read from the Torah.

We invite you to come and celebrate with us! Please join us at our annual renowned dairy/vegetarian Kiddush following Ten commandments reading. Children's program for  the little ones will allow you to enjoy! PLUS, join us for "Sleepless in Hawaii" Saturday night. (Details below)...:)

THE BIG 10

Shavuot (125x125)Sunday, June 9, approximately 11:00 am

Come with your entire family to hear the 10 Commandments read from the Torah - the SAME WORDS THAT WERE HEARD THREE MILLENNIA AGO ON MT. SINAI! (Just this time, we're doing it without the thunder and lightning and the call of the shofar...:))

Our Sages explain that before G‑d gave the Torah to the Jewish People, He demanded guarantors. The people suggested our forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; but these were not sufficient. They cited many other great leaders and people but G‑d did not accept them either! Finally, they declared, "BANEINU AREIVIM BA'ADEINU" - "Our children will be our guarantors!" G‑d immediately accepted and agreed to give them the Torah.

The Jewish Children were — and still are — the guarantors and transmitters of the Torah. Our commitment to their education has always been the best assurance to the continuity of Torah and Mitzvoth . When G‑d gave the Torah on Mt. Sinai, every Jewish child was present. Let us ensure that our children will be there this year too!
